 Another day at work

February 23, 2005 at 1:40 pm  |  work, technology, books/reading

Today I am at work… I am not working right now because I am writing this thing (though I should really not be as I have a few other things I could/should be doing). I have recently read through “Alice in Wonderland” and I have just started to read through “Through the Looking-Glass“, which is a mirror for those who do not know.

Also, you may have noticed that I linked directly to copies of each of these stories. I do this because they are in the “public domain”, meaning anyone can do whatever they like with them. Project Gutenberg has been kind enough to scan copies of old books, stories, diaries, what-have-you, and make digital copies of them that anyone can read.

Anyway, I am reading these stories and asking myself “Why?”. Why is the queen offing everybodies head? Why is Alice always changing sizes? What’s with the pepper, cook? I read someplace, that the stories are supposed to, in addition to entertaining children, teach them that other people are different and that those differences sometimes appear… silly. I dont know perhaps there is more to it… I will have to read up on the Victorians.

Also here is a poem at the beginning of “Through the Looking-Glass” (at least the edition I have at home) which I am quite enamored with. I will have to post it when I get home.

Post also, if anyone is stupid enough to read this weblog but smart enough to have insight into Carrol feel free to post a comment.
